I recently decided to start watching “good” content yet again since I was feeling a bit dumb and life’s experiences are too slow to teach something. So, I made myself a hopefully never to break the commitment of watching at least one good film/ content, and then try to fix my writing skills here on this wonderful medium. This is also to introduce and accept newer kinds of cinema all around the world. (also, a bit of engagement wouldn’t be bad!)

Procedurally, I watched Netflix’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar last weekend, and I can’t stop thinking about how magical it was. Wes Anderson, one of my favorite directors, has truly outdone himself, bringing Roald Dahl’s short story to life with his quirky brilliance.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays Henry Sugar, a self-centered man who discovers a book about a guru with the ability to see without his eyes. Watching his transformation from a greedy individual to someone genuinely selfless was inspiring and unexpectedly emotional. The supporting cast — Dev Patel, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Kingsley — added so much richness, making every moment memorable.

Visually, the film is stunning. Every frame feels like a meticulously designed painting, full of bold colors and Anderson’s unmistakable symmetry. What I loved most was how it felt like a storybook, with characters breaking the fourth wall and narrating directly to the audience. It made the whole experience intimate and engaging.

The themes really stuck with me: mindfulness, change, and the power of generosity. Even though it’s a short film, it left me feeling fulfilled, like I’d watched something truly profound.

If you’re a fan of Wes Anderson’s films or Roald Dahl’s storytelling, this is a must-watch. It’s heartfelt, visually spectacular, and a reminder of how even the simplest stories can leave a lasting impression. Netflix has delivered something truly special, and I’ll be recommending it to everyone I know.
