Nah, we are not hitting the road on our bikes for a racing competition. It’s more of a virtual competition among a lot of members and this idea has been brought forward by Peloton.

You must have come across a lot of indoor bikes in gyms and at several other places, but this one is different. And it is certainly not for those who are very strict in terms of their budget. In fact, Peloton Bike is a tad costlier than many other normal bikes.

However, due to the kind of competitive advantage it delivers, more and more people are getting these and are being a part of an entire community that is dedicated to fitness. Here is all that you need to know about Peloton Bike:

Look and Feel of the Bike:

Peloton Bike is a smart exercise bike which could be termed as a spin bike or an indoor bike as per your native language. It’s a stationary bike, as you would have already assumed, with a welded steel frame, super-quiet wheels, and an HD touchscreen display attached to the handle.

About Display and How it Works:

The most distinctive feature of Peloton Bike is a 21.5-inch 1080p HD display. This allows you to stream thousands of cycling classes or pre-recorded classes or go live in a class. But beware! The display cannot be used for anything else and you cannot stream a YouTube video or think of listening to music through this.

This display screen is actually the real secret of its cost (that I would reveal later) and this allows you to participate virtually in live or pre-recorded studio classes from the comfort of home.

There’s also a scenic route option that helps you feel like you’re outdoors when on it. Seriously, when quarantined at home during the pandemics, this was something that I really wanted to have.

Besides, the original cost of the bike, you need to take a monthly membership of the classes and this offers both live and on-demand classes while showing stats in real-time, in addition to cadence or revolutions per minute (RPMs).

There’s a 5MP camera on the screen that allows you to video chat with other Peloton riders. You are actually assigned a class with the other riders and you can follow other riders as well. Each class has a leaderboard that is viewed on the screen and it compares you to others in the class. There is an option to see the usernames, locations, ages, and profile photos of the riders if they update all the information. As per the effort you put in, you get a certain rank in the class and this keeps on increasing or decreasing.

And this is all due to this ranking system that many people are lured into using it, trying to prove themselves better than the others.

Structure of the bike:

Peloton bike weighs about 135 pounds (61kgs). It is made of solid steel and has aluminum pedals attached. There are integrated handlebars that can be adjusted for height and reach, to suit your preference. The bike has a MediaTek 8173 SoC which is quad-core in nature and this is the real reason behind its seamless connectivity to your home network and even the display that you view.

Cost of the Bike:

If you choose just the basic package, Peloton Bike costs you $2245, and additionally, you need to pay a sum of $39 every month to be a part of the live class or watch pre-recorded videos.

And it’s because of this live competition and ranking system that millions of people around the globe are looking forward to getting these bikes. What do you think?
