Amazon Echo Dot (4th Gen): The Changes for Better
Amazon Echo Dot has been one of the most popular household devices that have been getting better with the new generation being launched. This small and compact device is powerful enough to hush all your queries and is even sufficient to control all your smart home products.
As per the latest news, Amazon has launched the 4th generation of Echo Dot and this occurs with some pretty good changes. Here, let’s sneak a peek at the changes in the 4th Gen Amazon Echo Dot and what went better in the device against the 3rd Gen device.
Amazon Echo Dot: 4th Gen vs 3rd Gen
If you look at the size and the dimension the 3rd Gen Dot has a height of 1.7 inches and is 3.9 inches in diameter. It has a light ring surrounds the top perimeter, and there are four buttons namely the action button, volume buttons, and the microphone off button that are situated on the top flat surface.
The 4th Gen Echo Dot is spherically shaped, and it has a height of about 3.5 inches with a 3.9 inches diameter (almost similar to the previous generation). However, the new Echo Dot is larger than its predecessor.
Unlike the 3rd gen device, the light ring in the 4th Gen device is located along the bottom perimeter. You could see all the 4 buttons slightly raised as they lie on the top of the sphere. With a more futuristic design, the 4th Gen Echo Dot actually offers a more expensive facade.
Performance and Sound Quality:
Amazon Echo Devices mostly use MediaTek SoCs and perhaps this is the real reason why they are highly efficient, ready to take voice instructions in a trice.
The third generation of Amazon Echo Dot was a really cool device that had amazing sound quality owing to a 1.6-inch speaker that was almost half an inch larger than the previous generation. Against this, the 4th Gen Echo Dot still has a 1.6-inch speaker, but it is located in the front for a better sound efficiency. Both the Echo Dot 3rd gen and 4th gen have a 3.5mm jack for connecting a pair of headphones or an external speaker.
Other Features:
As evident, both Echo Dot 3rd gen and the Echo Dot 4th gen have Alexa to cater to your needs. However, now you can make use of features like Alexa Guard Plus which is a security service and a more advanced version of Alexa Guard. Plus, there is a feature known as Care Hub as well which lets you use Alexa to help you look out for aging family members.
Both the 3rd gen and 4th gen devices come in a “with clock” version that includes an LED display. While the3rd gen Echo Dot is the same as the Echo 3rd Gen, the 4th Gen Echo Dot with an LED clock also lets you see the time, alarms, and timers on an LED display. It’s ideal for a bedroom nightstand and helps you tap the top to snooze your morning alarm.
Cost:
The 3rd Gen Echo Dot originally cost $50, but around this time, you could get it for around $40. The 4th Gen Echo Dot will cost you the same and you need to pay $50 for it. The Echo Dot 4th Gen with Clock sells for $60.
No doubt, there are significant changes in the device and the next-gen device definitely seems to be better.
